Katy Hopkins is no stranger to controversy. She describes herself as ‘A conduit for truth’ when in reality she is a racist, bigot, and homophobe. In 2006 she took part in The Apprentice but left after Lord Sugar offered her a position in the final. She cited problems with childcare.

But at long last, we have a social network with ethics and we need to shout it from the rooftops. Twitter permanently suspended Katy Hopkins’s account due to a violation of its hateful conduct policy, and it’s been a long time coming.

Hopkins lost her job at the Met Office due to her performance on The Apprentice. Revelations about her private life were also a factor. She soon found solace in selling her story to The News Of The World and Grazia and Heat magazines.

In 2015 she gained weight to prove that ‘fat’ people could easily diet and lose weight. This showed her complete lack of understanding of the obesity crisis facing the world. It also showed her incompassionate view of those who struggle to lose weight.

Hopkins has been a voice for the far-right often inciting hatred via Twitter and her Youtube channel. She is also against multiculturalism and she also believes in a conspiracy to make whites a minority.

Katie Hopkins

One of her biggest controversial moments happened during her appearance on the ‘This Morning’ programme. Hopkins said she would stop her children playing with other children based on their first names. She described names such as Charmaine, Chantelle and Chardonnay as ‘lower class’. Hopkins also described a dislike for geographical names. Presenter Holly Willoughby (who didn’t hide her dislike for Hopkins) pointed out to her that her own daughter is named India. Hopkins said she didn’t view the name as being geographical.

She frequently denies that the views she expresses are solely for financial gain, insisting she is a conduit of truth for the majority.

Her ignorance knows no bounds. And it’s a good thing that a social network like twitter is starting to see these people for what they are. People such as Hopkins should never have a platform in which to spread hate so freely and without bounds. Hopefully more platforms will do the same and silence these hate spreaders once and for all.
