Welcome to the new site for Sywipe.
What began as a political opinion site, originally intending to give the reader the ability to either swipe left (agree) or swipe right (disagree) on a post, has now evolved into my professional personall website. The world is divisive enough since Trump, Brexit, Covid, and Trump again, that I didn’t want to really add to those emotive, polarising narratives.
SyWipe is now home to my professional works, my musings, and my opinions on life in general (and yes, that will most definitely include politics). But it will include some of my other passions such as movie and book reviews, M.E. research and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. You will also find links to places you can purchase or view the media I review and the articles I cite. I want to make clear that I get nothing for any of the reviews that I post, they are merely my own professional insights and thoughts (as shallow as they are). I have a first class honours degree in Literature, English Language, and Creative Writing. And I have a couple of months left on a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing. I’m also a qualified TESOL/TEFL lecturer.
I will be promoting authors that I know personally because I feel it is incredibly important that independent authors are see and read. There is a tide of AI works invading Amazon (the biggest self-publishing site) every single day, roughly 1,100 per week1, and independent authors are struggling to break through to the surface. AI is a tool and it should be used as such. It does NOT create original work but rather recreates from the work of others.

I am also going to promote a lot more of my own works, something I have been very reluctant to do. Like all creators of a certain age I am terrible at self-promotion, unlike Gen Z who seem very capable of self-importance having grown up with social media.
